Intermediate Navigation (N.N.A.S. Silver)
Who's it for?
This 2 day course is for those who have previous navigation experience, and have a good grasp of the basic skills, who wish to improve or refine their navigation skills. It is also a suitable progression for anyone who has done our intro to navigation course or the Bronze N.N.A.S. award.
We aim to cover the navigational skills required to stray from the well trodden paths so that you can safely and confidently plan and follow routes on open moorland. Over the two days we'll aim to cover the following topics and techniques:
- Map Scales, Symbols, Grid Sytem and Grid References
- Compass Skills- taking and following a bearing, including back bearings
- Pacing and Timing distances as a Navigational Aid
- Navigational Strategies- include poor visibility options
- Navigating using Contours
- Route Planning
- Relocation Techniques using small features
- Access- where you can and can't go walking
- Equipment Selection
This course covers all of the syllabus and is assessed to the standard of the Silver (N.N.A.S.) National Navigation Award Scheme Award.
