Base Camp with Mount Hunter behind, Kahiltna Glacier, Central Alaskan Range

Back in May of this year I headed out on a three week mountaineering trip to Alaska, with three mates. Due to my words being unable to do justice to just how vast, beautiful and awe inspiring the Central Alaskan Range is I thought I'd let the photo's do the talking.....

Retreating off the West Ridge, Mount Hunter,

So by the end of our trip we had managed to climb the South West Ridge of Mount Frances and the West Face of the Kahiltna Queen. We also got a fair way up the Mini Moonflower on Mount Hunter but retreated due to warm temps and a very real rockfall hazard. Along with this we also got several day's worth of ski touring done which made a welcome change to post holing in the snow. At the end of our trip we made an attempt on our main objective, the West Ridge of Mount Hunter, but a combination of factors including bad weather and not having enough time left meant we gave it a good go but had to bail otherwise we would have missed our flight back to civilisation. Either way we had a great trip and it definitely won't be my last visit to Alaska.
