Who's it for?
This course is ideal for the novice winter hill walker, mountaineer or climber or for those wanting to update themselves with current best practice.
This course is designed to develop your awareness of avalanche avoidance.
The program for this one day course is very flexible to take into account weather, conditions, individual abilities and experience etc and will be a combination of classroom and hill based. The following key content will be covered during the course:
- What Is An Avalanche & What Causes Them?
- Avalanche (SAIS) & Weather Forecast Interpretation
- Introduction To The 'Be Avalanche Aware' Model
- Applying The Forecast- Journey/Route Planning
- Mountain Observations- How To Interpret The Snowpack & Hill Conditions
- Risk Reduction & Safe Travel Procedures

All safety equipment, including ice axes and crampons can be supplied free of charge.
